MASTER DENNIS BROWN

Internationally known for his versatile display of fighting arts, Master Brown is the head of the Dennis Brown Shaolin Wu-Shu Academy in the Washington Metropolitan area. His interest in martial arts began in 1965, and since then he has participated in a variety of demonstrations throughout the area, including local tournaments, hospitals, churches, street celebrations, schools, and sporting events. He has demonstrated proficiency to standing ovations at New York’s Madison Square Garden where he appeared on ABC’s “Wide World of Sports.” Master Brown promotes one of the country’s most prestigious martial arts tournaments, the US Capitol Classics, which is one of the only 13 “AAA” rated tournaments the US. Master Brown was one of the first Americans to travel to mainland China in 1982 to train, study and was certified at the Jianngsu Sports Center in Nanjiing. In 1985, he received certification from Beijing Institute of Physical Education where he worked with many of the national martial arts champions of China. In 1988, Master Brown returned to advanced studies in the Chinese Internal Art of Tai Chi. In 1990, he traveled to Germany to perform with many of the major martial artists, and in 1995 he traveled to Russia as the coach of one of the first Wu-Shu full contact teams to fight in Siberia. In the Fall of 1995, Master Brown returned to continue training in the Internal Arts with the Beijing Wu-Shu Team, and in 1996 broke new ground by sponsoring the Beijing Team to come to Washington, DC to perform at the US Capitol Classics. Master Brown received one of his highest honors when Mayor Marion Barry proclaimed September 11, 1982, “Dennis Brown Day,” in Washington, D.C. This honor was bestowed for his continued work with youth. That same year, he was also one of an elite group of kung-fu practitioners to be nominated for the Wu-Shu Performer Hall of Fame. The Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. recognized him as the Official Consultant of Wu-Shu for the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. In 1996, Master Brown was inducted into the Kung Fu Hall of Fame and the Christian Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Currently, a member of the Board of Directors for the Educational Funding Company, the leading martial arts business consultant group in the US, Master Brown is also a board member of NASKA (North American Sport Karate Association), the leading sanctioning body for martial arts events in the nation. He is Chairman of the Potomac Ridge Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). Master Brown was featured in and assisted in a book on the Tien Shan Pai: Style of Kung Fu. A well rounded martial artist known for his sportsmanship, Master Brown excels in Wu-Shu fighting skills, weapons, forms, and the teaching of Tai Chi and other internal systems. He was nationally rated in the U.S. for many years and has earned the respect of the foremost martial artists in the nation. Master Brown has fought in and won many of the major kung-fu tournaments, acquiring over three hundred trophies -- exhibiting his expertise in forms and weaponry. And, in his role as Shi-Fu (teacher), he has taught over 20,00 students, ages 4 to 88 and has graduated over 200 Black Belts, making his name synonymous with Kung-Fu in the United States, Europe and China.
